Summer Cold

My poor Ian has been sick the last few days. Here he is, putting on a brave face for my ever-present camera! He's feeling much better now, but he was just miserable for a couple of days, even missing some swim lessons. He made it for the last day, though!
See, they really DO love each other! Bella decided (all on her own) to get a book and read to Ian since he was feeling so badly. What a sweet sister!
We're getting ready for the beach, so, Bella and I ran some errands today, while the boys stayed home. While we were in Tyler, we visited my friend, Marla, who I haven't seen in a while. It was a quick visit, but it was nice getting to catch up!
.......... What a couple of cool chicks : )

Girls' Night Out

We finally had our girls' night. Lisa, Andrea and I have been talking about it for a while now, and Andrea took the bull by the horns and put a plan in motion... woo-hoo!

The drive into Tyler was an adventure in itself, but that's all I'll say about that..... : )

It was nothing spectacular.... but we had a lot of fun. And there was A LOT of laughing. It's not often (in my case... never) we get to eat out and have grown up conversation without our kids around. (Thanks, dads, for staying home with the kiddos!)

We had dinner at Cheddar's... Man! That place was packed on a Tuesday night!
After completely stuffing ourselves (at least in my case), we headed over to Target, where we tried on clothes and shopped for school supplies (who knew kindergartener's needed so much??). We closed the place down and then headed over to Andy's (yum) for a little treat before heading home.
It was a fun night.... we hope to make it a regular thing!

The Hills Are Alive.....

Suzy... knowing Chris (and my favorite movie), you will appreciate this one....

Tonight, we were sitting at the table after dinner, and Chris starts whistling "Don't Worry Be Happy". Simultaneously, Bella and I start singing. Chris, laughing, shouts, "We're the Von Clumps!!"

I nearly fall off my chair laughing. Chris doesn't understand.

I say, "What?!"

He says, "We're the Von Clumps!"

I say, "Who are the Von Clumps?!"

He says, "That family who sings!"

I can't quit laughing.

My husband is such a dork. :)

Moving Day

Saturday, Henry and Jo spent the day with us while Lisa and Sam moved into their new house. The kids had an absolute blast! They played nonstop.... they would go from one thing to another... bam. bam. bam. No breaks. No naps. Just full speed ahead!
It's a good thing Bella and Jo love each other so much, since they will be family one day

Here's how our day pretty much went...

Play outside
Swim
Lunch/Movie/Ice cream
Play inside
Swim
Slip & slide
Snack
Play outside
Play inside
Finish movie/eat popcorn
Dress up/Play outside
Play inside
The pirate, the policeman & the space ranger! All the kids did great... no fights, no arguing. They were all little angels.... just little balls of pure energy the entire day! I didn't even know I was tired until I sat down afterwards and couldn't find the will to get up! ; ) Seriously, we can't wait to do it again!

Swim Lessons

The kids started swim lessons this week. It's a small group of 7... which is good, with 2 instructors. It's pretty basic stuff so far, and the kids (at least mine) seem a little bored, but I know they have to cover the boring stuff before they can get to the "fun" stuff! It turns out I know one of the moms there, and have connections to a couple of others. We're having fun talking and getting to know each other while the kids torture the instructors. And Ian is happy because Brady, one of his friends from school, is in the class. (He's the cutie w/the orange earplugs!)The first day, one kid screamed for a solid 20 minutes... and the class is only 45 minutes long! One instructor's time was totally monopolized by him, trying to get him to calm down. So, today, when the boy walked in with his mom, we all just kind of readied ourselves for another meltdown. Surprisingly, the kid did great. And man, were those instructors relieved!

At the end of the lesson, the kids got to jump into the water. Ian was all for it, but Bella elected not to participate!

Out of the Mouths of Babes...

Bella, 3-1/2 -

"Mommy, can I reach a star? Can I reach one and get it for you, because I love you."

Bella: Mommy, where does Walmart come from?
Me: Well, a man named Mr. Walton built it.
Bella: Oh. What does his hair look like?
Me: I'm not sure.
Bella: Well, we need to see him so I can see what his hair looks like!

"I don't want to build a new house. Robert Dinero can have the new house."

"Mommy, I don't want Ian to take a bath with me. I need my lonely time, like you need your lonely time when you take a bath!"

Ian, 2-1/2 -

"I want to go to work with Daddy and shoot bad guys!"

"Mommy, I love your heart."

Bella, 4-1/2 -

To Ian: "Maybe when you grow up I'll let you marry me. But you'll grow up in 30 minutes."

"Mommy, give me your tears. I'm going to put them in my pocket and save them for later."

Ian, 3 -

(He discovered his testicles in the tub one night)
Ian: Mommy, what are these?
Me: They're your testicles
Ian: They're like little... eggs. I hope they don't break!
(I assured him they wouldn't)
Ian: If they do break, we'll just buy some more.

Ian, 4 -

"Mommy, I'm going to buy you a diamond ring. Will you get my piggy pank so I can see how much money I have?"

We were watching Enchanted and Ian says, "Mommy, this movie makes me think about marrying you."

"I have a good thinkin' brain!"

Thinking I was sleeping, Ian climbed into bed with me early one morning, snuggled up, laid his head on my chest, and whispered, "You're in my heart." (then he fell back to sleep while I cried! :)

"Can I please excuse the table?" (We're working on having better table manners)

Bella, 5-1/2 -

(Chris was putting deordorant on) "Boy, you've got lots of hair under your arms. Why don't you shave that off?"

"Mommy, when I'm old enough and Daddy has a lot of money, I'm going to buy you another jeep."

Bella: Do I have a baby in my tummy?
Me: I sure hope not.
Bella: But I already married Henry!

4th of July

Well, I wouldn't exactly say we had a fun-filled 4th. Parts of it were fun. It was definitely an adventure.
The day started off good, with Chris taking us to the movies to see Wall-E. It was a really cute movie. Ian actually sat through the whole thing without saying, "Is it time to go home yet?".
When we got home, the kids went swimming. Afterward, I was really tired, so I laid down, with every intention of going to Lisa's 4th of July party at the lake (Chris had to work). I slept longer than I had intended and started trying to get us all ready to leave, even though it was already 7:30! I figured we could at least still make it for the fireworks.

Well, someone in the neighborhood was already setting them off. I opened the front door to let Tobey in (because he's afraid of them), and the neighbor's dog, Grizzly, (a big chow), nearly knocked me over, running into my house! He was terrified. He ran around my house and wouldn't listen to anything I said. We even tried bribing him with treats. Nothing worked. Now, I'm a dog lover, but chow's make me nervous. And this isn't the most friendly dog. I'm worried he might bite one of my kids, or me! Did I mention that this is a very stinky dog? He REEKS. I finally grab hold of him gently, trying to push/pull him out (he has no collar), but he snaps and barks at me. Well, after that, I was distracted, what with all the poo in my pants.

By this time, I've lost my mind and can't remember the neighbors' last name (they're the ones w/the runaway cows). I call Chris and rant... he tells me their last name. Great. I get out the phone book. Guess what? They're not in the book. The clock is ticking. I'm getting more mad by the minute. I call my other neighbors.... the good neighbors.... I know they have the number. Guess what? They're not home. I leave a ranting message on their answering machine (I hate to suffer alone.) I decide we're just going to close all the doors in the house and walk next door (out in the country, next door isn't exactly "next door". No way to get through the barbed-wire fence! Finally, the kids find a place they can get through. I, however, cannot fit (as tiny and dainty as I am). So, they run to the house, through the 3 foot bahia, having to navigate yet more barbed wire fence.

No one's home. Shocker. So, the kids start to come back, only Bella gets stuck in the inside fence. Ian's yelling for me that she needs help. Now I'm slightly panicking. I don't hear any crying or screaming, so that's a good sign. I finally find a way in, but I have to push over a huge, heavy gate. Here I am, running through the 3' high bahia. I find Bella and get her loose. She's got a big scratch on her back and her new shirt is now torn. So, we head back to the house. I almost don't get the huge gate back up off the ground. I'm sure I will be feeling this in the morning. The whole way back to the house, I'm muttering and complaining, just so angry. Not exactly seizing the opportunity to show my kids a better way to be handling this situation!

Back at the house..... after just a little more prodding, we finally get Grizzly out. Thank the Lord!!! We're so happy!!! We stink, we're dirty, we're sweaty, we're itchy, but at least that dog is outta my house!! And what does he do? He starts jumping and scratching on my door! By this time it's close to dark. I'm past livid. I decide we are going to see fireworks if it kills me! When we open the door to head out, Grizzly almost makes it in again! We get to the car, Grizzly tries to JUMP IN my car! I'm just so beyond crazed at this point, but trying to stay sane for my kids, who really want to see fireworks.

We head down the road, where I pass the good neighbors coming in. I decide to leave them another message, this time, warning them about Cujo possibly coming to THEIR house. The whole way out of town, I think we might pass someone putting on a fireworks show. Nothing. We continue on into Tyler. Still nothing. Ian has fallen asleep by this point. I end up driving almost to Whitehouse, where my friend, Cherie, told me there would be a big display at a church. I've already called her, by the way, ranting about the canine situation!

Man! Was Cherie right. The highway on both sides was lined up with cars as far as you could see. I lucked out and found a good spot to pull over. I couldn't wake up Ian, but Bella and I got out, sat on the car, and watched what was the last 15 or 20 minutes of the show. All was not lost!! It was really fantastic. Bella loved it!

I had promised her we'd pick up some sparklers, so, I stopped at a stand and got some (and the guy even gave me a free box!... Did he sense I was having a bad night??). Then we stopped for ice cream on the way home. Poor Ian. He missed everything. I guess our earlier escapade proved just too much for him!

While Ian slept, Bella and I threw poppers and played with sparklers... We had a fun time!! Tonight (Saturday), Ian got to have fun with sparklers and poppers! He was happy! And I just thought this was a cute picture of him in the pool today!

Hope every one's 4th was totally fun but much less eventful than ours!!!!

Hooray for Ian!!

YAY! IAN DID IT!!! Thursday morning, he told me he was going to swim under water.... and HE DID!! He went out there, put on the goggles, cautiously put his face in a couple of times, and within 15 minutes, he was swimming under water!!! What a kid!!! I am so proud of my little man!!!
I figured he might not be ready until he was a little older, like Bella. But I guess seeing her do it made him feel more confident. He pretty much is always willing to try anything, even when he's afraid. I tell him that's what makes him brave. He likes to be brave. :) Swim lessons are going to be so much easier now that they're not afraid to go under the water.
How is it that they're terrified one day, then the next, it's like they're old pros?! I'm so proud of my kiddos.... they amaze me every day with their courage, their creativeness, and their loving hearts!! What a couple of COOL kids I have!!!

Change of Subject:

Woo Hoo!! Chris and I finally had a date....

... with chaperones!
We had a gift card to our favorite restaurant (Outback) and finally had an opportunity to use it! It was delish!

When we got home, Ian wanted to jump in the pool again to show Chris how he can swim under water! He was so proud of himself!!
The End.

New Life

Our eggs hatched this morning! I had no idea it would happen so quickly.
There are 3 babies in there, and one has his little beak wide open!

It turned out there was a total of 4 eggs. Then one went missing the next day. But there are three baby birds in the nest! They're SO ugly, they're cute! I'm sure mama bird didn't like us peering into her nest, but I had to get a picture. At one point, they all had their heads up with their beaks wide open! It was so funny! But I didn't get the picture. The kids are really excited. The bad thing is, we're trying to get our cat to become an outside kitty, and now, it's kind of a bad time for that! Those babies will surely be gone if Blackberry gets wind of them!

Ian has been dying to shoot his bb gun, so, this evening, Chris got it out and put up a paper target for them to shoot.
Ian did so great! He actually hit the target!

I Smile Because You're My Sister...

I'm so happy I finally got to visit with my sister. We haven't gotten together in over a year! (Has it been two???) My aunt suggested that we meet up at her lake house for a couple of days, and I'm so glad we did. It took a little effort working through everyone's schedules, but it finally came together.
There she is, in her old lady floppy hat!! :)
(You'll be happy to know, Suzy, that I bought one for myself a few days later!!)

Poor Suzy, she really needed to get away... she and her family have had it rough the past several months. But, thankfully, now things are starting to look up!

We had such a great, relaxing time. The weather was perfect, and all the kids picked up right where they left off!
Bella & Ian with Morgan
(Ian loves his cousin, Morgan!! And Bella spent the whole time emulating her!)

Auntie I cooked for us and took the kids for jet ski rides. (She even gave up her big bed so that Suzy and I could stay up late talking, before passing out from exhaustion!) We played games, went on a boat ride, and did lots of swimming!
Here's Trevor. He's the oldest... this kid is hilarious!

Ian and Jack... 2 little peas in a pod!

Bella had such a fun time snuggling up with Jack, watching movies on his dvd player. Sunday night, I went into their room to check on them. It was completely dark, and the two of them were under the covers, up to their eyeballs. I thought they were asleep, then realized they were watching a movie. It was too cute! So, Bella has now been introdued to Old Yeller (thank goodness the movie messed up before she saw the end!)

What a great Meme... she played in the water with the kids practically the whole time! (I wish you could see the crazy faces these kids are making!)

The visit just was not long enough. We definitely need to get together much more often! We miss you guys already!!!
